Everton should be pleased with lots of elements of their performance against Manchester City on Monday night.
David Moyes’ side showed great resilience to come back from a goal behind and soar into a 3-1 lead at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton were so aggressive in the duels, and Pep Guardiola admitted the Toffees made it a ‘proper English game’.
Do we all owe this man an apology after his performance against Man City? 👀
Credit where it's due, he was absolutely fantastic! 👏
Tim Iroegbunam was fantastic in the middle of the park and was actually given the Man of the Match award by the Premier League.
However, supporters believe there was one player who was even better.

Everton fans vote Merlin Rohl as the MOTM vs Man City
Voting on the poll below, Everton fans actually voted Merlin Rohl as the Man of the Match against Man City.
Who was your Man of the Match as Everton settle for a point? 🤝
In fact, Rohl was the resounding winner in the vote, and Toffees supporters heaped praise on him in the comments section.
- “Merlin Rohl was outstanding. Good thing that £17.3m clause was automatically triggered recently – reckon he could play a big part in our future.”
- “Rohl playing like that makes it hard to understand why we’ve barely seen him. Superb showing from him.”
- “Rohl had a great game and the lad hasn’t had much game time lately, so fair play to him.”
- “How good was he?! He certainly surprised me with how much pace he had about him.”
- “Outstanding performance from him last night.”
- “Rohl for sure.”
It was only Rohl’s third Premier League start of the season, and he was played out of position, so to perform like that was remarkable.
The 23-year-old only touched the ball 13 times, quite remarkably, but his off-the-ball work was absolutely first-class.
His heatmap shows he was up and down that right flank all game, keeping pace with perhaps the best winger in the league, Jeremy Doku.
Indeed, Doku did score twice, but the first goal was on the opposite side of the pitch, and he subbed off before the second.
If only Everton had 11 Rohl’s last night, they probably would’ve got the win over the line.
