Everton hope to sign Tomas Soucek from West Ham this summer.
David Moyes is plotting a reunion with the Czech Republic international – who played 207 games under the Glaswegian at West Ham – as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract in east London.
That was according to talkSPORT – and Czech news outlet iSport have now issued an update on Tomas Soucek for Everton fans.
Everton being linked to Soucek again… thoughts? 💭
West Ham yet to speak to agent of Tomas Soucek but hold option to extend
The story from iSport states that West Ham are yet to even sit down and discuss a contract extension with the Czech Republic international and his agent, with relegation still a firm possibility this season.
That is understandable, as iSport say Soucek will see his salary drastically drop from €350,000-a-month (£303,331) to €100,000-a-month (£86,666) if West Ham go down.
However – regardless of relegation – it is said that West Ham hold an option to trigger an extension to his terms, adding another year onto his contract and taking the expiry date up to July 2028. A final decision will be made in May, they add.
So, what initially seemed like a potential market opportunity for Everton this summer is now a slightly more complicated deal than The Friedkin Group would have liked it to be.
That is, of course, unless Soucek – who Everton fans feel is too old – simply decides not to sign any new deal and pushes to leave the London Stadium, where he has played ever since arriving from Slavia Prague in January 2020.
In total, the 31-year-old can boast 46 goals and 13 assists in 275 appearances for West Ham, who he helped to win the UEFA Conference League back in 2023.
Will TFG have to move away from Moyes to achieve their recruitment model? 😬
Jose Mourinho even once said Soucek was like a new Marouane Fellaini for Moyes in east London, so the Everton boss will surely be desperate to arrange a reunion with the West Ham No.28 this summer.
