Everton are battling a number of Premier League sides for signings this summer in what is proving a competitive market.

The Toffees have secured one signing this summer in retaining Carlos Alcaraz for David Moyes on a permanent deal.

But Everton have certainly endured some struggles in battling some of their Premier League rivals to other targets.

Chelsea did beat Everton to Liam Delap earlier this summer and are currently facing battles to land other players.

The reality is Everton are looking to strengthen their entire squad after so many departures at the end of June.

Everton would like to add to their defence, but the Blues have now seen Aston Villa enter the race for a player Angus Kinnear has on his radar.

Everton face Aston Villa competition for Yann Bisseck

Everton are keen to sign Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan this summer, but so are a number of other Premier League sides.

Interestingly, the interest from Merseyside remains despite Michael Keane signing a new Everton contract on Friday.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, Unai Emery would like to see his Aston Villa make a real push for the German defender.

The defender is believed to be valued in the region of £30m, with Inter open to allowing his departure before the season starts.

The requirement for defensive additions may have eased at Finch Farm, but fans may want to see the quality improved in the squad depth.

West Ham United are also interested in Bisseck after he was told he could follow Hakan Calhanoglu out of the door at the San Siro.

Everton could make a statement in beating Premier League rivals

The Friedkins want to make a statement at Everton this summer in the form of a big signing in the market.

Even if the Toffees are unable to land that big name, beating some of their league rivals to targets would be a good indication of intent from the Friedkins.

It is going to be an interesting final month or so in the window, with a lot of work needing to be done at Finch Farm.

With big ambitions coming from the new owners, the club will be looking to close the gap on the top half of the table.
