Everton have been thrown into the running to sign Marcus Edwards from Sporting CP.

David Moyes will be all too aware of what Everton need to improve on in the transfer window, despite their encouraging win on the weekend.

Finding the back of the net has been a major issue for the Toffees this season.

The Friedkins are looking to sign a new forward this month to try and ease the pressure which has built up in front of goal.

Although questions may remain over the long-term future of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and their other strikers, adding creativity around them may be a solution to their goal issues.

Speaking to Everton News, TBR Football’s Chief Transfer Correspondent Graeme Bailey has shared his understanding of Everton’s interest in Marcus Edwards.

Marcus Edwards’ representatives have contacted Everton

Everton sources have claimed Edwards’ representatives have informed clubs within England of the playmaker’s availability.

Sporting CP are open to allowing the former Tottenham Hotspur winger leave this month.

The decision made on the Englishman’s future comes at a time when Sporting CP have omitted Edwards from their Champions League squad for Wednesday night.

Sources now understand Edwards’ people are actively looking to find him a new club before the end of the window.

There is interest from across Europe, but Turkish outfit Besiktas are one of sides showing an early interest.

Marcus Edwards could present a gamble for Everton

Edwards has been praised heavily in the past with Owen Hargreaves rating his ability as ‘ridiculous’.

However, this is a player who has not shown it in any of Europe’s top five leagues and currently finds himself out of favour in Lisbon.

This season, Edwards has the following to his name:

Everton are also keen to sign Ernest Nuamah this month, who could also prove a real risk for the Toffees given his form this season.

But it appears the Friedkins are putting their trust in Kevin Thelwell to find Everton a player who is capable of pulling them out of the foot end of the table.
