Everton target Pape Gueye has openly vented his anger in the media following Senegal’s World Cup exit.

Idrissa Gana Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye’s World Cup is over after Senegal’s capitulation against Belgium led to a sleepless night in Seattle.

Senegal had one foot in the last 16, but squandered their 2-0 lead, with players left heated in the moments after the final whistle.

Everton have shown an interest in Pape Gueye as Idrissa Gueye’s future at Everton remains uncertain.

However, there may well be some character concerns on Merseyside following some of the comments from the Villarreal midfielder on Wednesday evening in the Pacific North West.

What Everton target Pape Gueye said after Senegal’s World Cup exit

With less than five minutes of regular time remaining, Senegal still held a 2-0 lead over Belgium, but they were somehow taken into extra time following goals from Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans.

The Aston Villa midfielder then scored a penalty in extra-time to clinch their spot in the last 16, which sparked fury from the Senegal players.

Let us know what you think of Everton target Pape Gueye’s goals on Friday night… 😳

How good of a replacement for Idrissa could this guy be?

Posting on his Instagram story after the game, Gueye announced he would step away from the national side until a managerial change is made.

“I will come back to say a few words about the elimination… but I am announcing today that as long as it is this technical staff, I will take a break from the selection,” he said.

It is certainly a bold approach to take, and one which the likes of Everton will have to consider as they eye a possible summer deal for the midfielder.

Gueye scored twice and provided one assist in his four appearances at this summer’s World Cup.

Why Everton may not be impressed with Pape Gueye’s Senegal message

Regardless of whether a change is needed at managerial level of the Senegal national side, this is an extreme stance to take.

The volatility of his frustration is something that any interested club is likely to take into consideration this summer.

David Moyes’ future at Everton has come under scrutiny, with sections of the fanbase having demanded a change earlier in the year.

Having the supporters peddling the notion of a managerial change is one thing, but to have a player publicly join in is something that is very rarely seen.

Again, regardless of whether he is right or wrong, it is not a good look for Gueye to take this stance.

Going public with his comments may well raise some character concerns with the recruitment team on Merseyside.

The money involved with transfers in this day and age means just about every aspect of the player in question has to be taken into consideration.

If there is a feeling that he would not be a good character fit for what The Friedkin Group are trying to build at Finch Farm, then he must be avoided.

Clearly, Gueye has a lot of passion for the game, but he has let his emotions get the better of him on this occasion.
