‘Would be unreal’… Everton fans can’t quite believe who could end up playing at Bramley-Moore Dock

Everton need a big summer, and one player on the club’s radar going into the next window is Angel Gomes.

The Friedkin Group are tasked with preparing a competitive squad for David Moyes, but it will not be easy for the new owners in their first major window.

A host of players are set to leave the club. And Moyes could see his pool of midfield options decimated.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gana Gueye are both out of contract and may leave as free agents. That said, there is a willingness to keep both, but it depends if an agreement can be reached.

Orel Mangala may also not return to Everton after his loan spell. Mangala suffered a serious knee injury earlier this year, and the Toffees may not seek to sign him permanently as a result.

Everton are said to like Angel Gomes, with a claim being made earlier this week that the Toffees are lining up an offer to sign him.

Gomes will leave Lille for free at the end of the season, and is not short of suitors, with Tottenham Hotspur also keen.

On social media, Everton fans have made their feelings very clear about Gomes.

The midfielder being available on a free this summer means a big opportunity for clubs.

Some Evertonians don’t feel it would be a particularly easy deal for the club to do. But certainly, plenty want to see him gracing the Bramley-Moore Dock turf.

@goodison2 said: “Great player exactly what we need.”

@LordStu1234 added: “Would be unreal but let’s be honest he will have much better offers than us.”

@mogs157 said: “Can’t see it myself, but what a signing that (would) be.”

@TomPerry51 said: “Hope it’s true about us being interested in Angel Gomes, only seen him playing for England but I thought he was very good linking the play up from back to front.”

@LiamT20EFC said: “Would be all over this me.”

@IanRuss04458454: “I like this fella, tidy on the ball keeps the ball moving and likes a forward pass !!!! What’s not to like ???”

Gomes would be a statement signing by Everton

There may be difficulty for Everton with this deal, because Gomes’ wage demands are thought to be over £100,000 per week.

So it remains to be seen if the Toffees will be willing to meet those demands, or try to negotiate him down.

But certainly, Everton getting Gomes in would be a statement of intent.

Gomes – who made his senior England debut last year – being a free agent this summer means he has plenty of options to choose from.

As well as Everton and Tottenham being in the frame, he has also previously been linked with Arsenal and a return to Manchester United.

Hopefully, the talented 24-year-old will want to be a part of an exciting new project and play at a phenomenal new stadium.
