£10m player says Kevin Thelwell helped convince him to sign for Everton this summer

Everton’s 2024 summer transfer business has been impressive thus far, with Sean Dyche wasting no time upgrading his squad.

Iliman Ndiaye and Tim Iroegbunam arrived at Goodison Park in an early flurry of business.

Furthermore, Dane Jesper Lindstrom is now on the verge of joining Everton after a deal was agreed with Napoli.

Lyon’s Irish central defender Jake O’Brien is also of interest, with the Toffees pushing to land the 23-year-old.

Another shrewd piece of business involved Jack Harrison returning on loan, and the former £10million man has shed light on the reasoning behind heading back to Merseyside.

After his relatively successful loan spell in 2023/24 and Leeds United’s failure to return to the Premier League, the 27-year-old re-signing appeared to be the right move for all parties.

And now, in an interview with the New York Times, Harrison has shed light on Kevin Thelwell’s role in getting the move over the line.

“The manager and Kevin (Thelwell) made it very clear how much they wanted me back,” Harrison said. “I was comfortable right from the start.”

He added: “On top of that, having a point to prove to myself. You want to be where you’re valued and where you’re capable of being at your best, and this was the best way we saw.”

Everton return marks yet another loan spell for Jack Harrison

Harrison’s return to Everton marks his fourth loan spell during the course of his career.

Of course, the 27-year-old was with the Blues last season. Furthermore, he’s spent time on loan with Leeds and Middlesbrough previously.

If Harrison’s second loan spell at Goodison Park is successful, a third temporary agreement cannot be ruled out, as his current contract with Leeds runs until the summer of 2028.

Of course, if the Yorkshire club remain outside the top flight, Everton’s chances of eventually landing a cut-price permanent deal will be massively increased.
