Everton have been working on a number of deals this January transfer window.

Everton are currently trying to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who is also attracting interest from Real Betis.

Melo’s teammate Timothy Weah is also being linked to Goodison Park as David Moyes looks to sign a wide player this month.

Moyes want to implement a more attacking-based approach and in training, he’s placing more focus on keeping possession.

But to do that, he clearly needs reinforcements and quickly. That said, here’s the latest update on the deal to sign Ernest Nuamah.

Ernest Nuamah transfer ‘very unlikely’

Everton have been in talks to sign Ernest Nuamah for weeks and there have been rumours that a deal is almost agreed.

However, over the last week or so, the proposed transfer has been at a complete standstill and now Alan Myers has pretty much ruled out that deal taking place.

Myers noted that the Nuamah transfer is ‘very unlikely’ to materialise and it’s believed to be due to fact Lyon no longer need to sell.

The French outfit received around £27m from Luiz Henrique’s move from Botofoga to Zenit due to the sporting rights they owned on the player.

That said, their finances are in a much better place now so they’ve opted to retain Nuamah’s signature.

Everton running out of time

Everton really need to get a move on as just 13 days remain in the window and it seems they’re no closer to signing someone than they were at the start of the month.

The Toffees board can’t afford to become complacent after their Tottenham victory and especially not after Armando Broja’s injury – which could rule him out for up to three months.

With Beto ready to leave, that makes Dominic Calvert-Lewin the only fit and available number nine at the club.

So Everton must ensure a number nine is signed before the deadline.
