Everton are already drawing up a list of targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

David Moyes is keen to change the recruitment strategy at Everton, with a focus on signing players from the Championship.

“I know we’re in a world where we can pick players from any continent to play in the Premier League,” Moyes explained.

“A long time ago, it wasn’t as easy and maybe people didn’t look as far. We continue to look closer to home, which is the Championship. Last year, the Championship produced some incredible players like (Morgan) Rogers, (Adam) Wharton, (Jaden) Philogene possibly.”

With that said, Everton have been tracking Sunderland’s wonderkid Chris Rigg, who has been a standout player in the second tier over the last 18 months since breaking through.

Everton insider Alan Myers has now shared what he knows about the potential transfer.

Alan Myers pours cold water on Chris Rigg to Everton

Sunderland have placed a £40m price tag on 17-year-old Chris Rigg, who has been linked with a plethora of Premier League sides.

A Sunderland expert revealed to the site that he’d be very surprised if Everton signed Rigg this summer, given the number of high-profile suitors keeping tabs on his situation.

Merseyside rivals Liverpool have been circling around Rigg and now Myers has poured cold water on the transfer link.

The Sky Sports journalist admitted he hadn’t heard anything ‘definite’ about Everton’s interest in the England youth international.

Everton looking at alternatives to Rigg

Everton have been looking at alternatives to Rigg over the last few weeks.

Stuttgart’s Merlin Rohl has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park and that seems like a much more realistic transfer.

Rohl has a £17m price tag and talks have already begun within Everton about signing him. Moyes faced him four times with West Ham United in the Europa League last season, so clearly he caught the eye.

Tomas Soucek has also been linked to Everton, however, the West Ham midfielder has already ruled out a reunion on Merseyside.

The 30-year-old wants to see out the rest of his career at the Hammers.
