Everton’s draw on Monday evening against West Ham United left fans with more frustrations, but there was one big positive for Alan Myers.
Four games have now passed without a victory being added to the board for Everton across all competitions.
David Moyes’ biggest worry currently is the lack of goals coming from his two strikers, despite the creativity being added going forward.
Following the draw, Tony Bellew defended Moyes’ position at the club after some fans told TalkSPORT they wanted him sacked.
Clearly, there are a number of issues which Everton need to resolve ahead of the January transfer window.
But Everton News columnist Myers has admitted that losing Idrissa Gana Gueye for the Africa Cup of Nations is going to be an issue.

Alan Myers worried about Idrissa Gana Gueye’s Everton absence
In his weekly column for Everton News, Myers has praised the performance of Gueye in the draw against the Hammers.
“Talking of top performers, Idrissa Gana Gueye – making his 200th Premier League appearance – was another bright spot on Monday night,” said Myers.
“A testament to his importance to the club, at 36 he is defying all expectations of someone his age with impressive performances week in, week out, showing no signs of fatigue whatsoever, putting in another 95 minutes.”
Moyes was delighted to keep Gueye at Everton for another season after his contract came to an end over the summer.
However, there is one big concern over Gueye, with the midfielder set to represent Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations later this year.
“Gueye will be a big miss when he leaves for AFCON duty in December with Senegal,” Myers added.
Although Gueye struggled for Senegal recently, he has been a huge piece of Everton’s starting XI over recent years and he will certainly be a miss for Everton when he departs.
Everton will sorely miss Gueye when he plays at AFCON
Gueye has been so impressed by Iliman Ndiaye and Jack Grealish this season, but he has played his own part in making Everton the team they are now.
The Senegal international has been a midfield warrior for Everton and Monday evening was no different.
- 90 minutes played
- 1 shot blocked
- 1 interception
- 1 tackle
- 94% pass accuracy
Fortunately, James Garner has surprised a lot of people this season with his performances under Moyes.
He will be heavily relied upon later in the season when Gueye departs for international duty.
Merlin Rohl remains absent through injury, but fans will be hoping the German can build up some form to potentially fill in for Gueye over the winter.
