Everton suffered defeat against Manchester City despite putting up a solid showing on Saturday.

David Moyes has endured some real struggles during his time back on Merseyside, but there has been some considerable progress made.

After just three months in the job, Everton have now secured their Premier League status for the 2025/26 season.

With that in mind, work will now be going into the work needing to be done over the summer transfer window.

Everton are prioritising signing a striker when the market opens in a matter of weeks.

It is the area which has provided some of the biggest issues all season for Everton, and that was on display once again against City.

Armando Broja disappoints again for Everton vs Man City

Moyes handed Armando Broja another opportunity in the starting XI on the weekend after playing against Nottingham Forest.

However, he was hooked off once again by Moyes midway through the second half.

It is now expected Broja will return to Chelsea in the summer when his Everton loan comes to an end at the conclusion of the campaign.

Broja was allowed 63 minutes at Goodison Park on the weekend before Moyes brought Beto into the game.

The Albania international really struggled to put his influence on the game, with no shots coming from the 23-year-old.

And his heat map from his hour on the pitch has to speak volumes to Moyes ahead of the remaining six games this season.

Broja will not be available for the game against Chelsea on the weekend due to the terms of his loan agreement.

But Moyes will surely have been considering his other options anyway considering Broja’s most frequent space covered was the centre-circle.

A new striker is a necessity for Everton this summer

Whether it has been through injury or a lack of form, the Everton strikers simply have not been good enough this season.

Beto has shown some promising form earlier on in Moyes’ tenure, but that has quickly come to an end over recent weeks.

Whether it has been Sean Dyche or Moyes, Everton simply have not had a striker they’ve been able to rely on for a long period of time this season.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is set to leave Everton as he has failed to ink any of the contract offers which have been put to him.

But Broja’s showing on Saturday must be a warning to Moyes that the Chelsea striker may not be the answer he was looking for.
