Liverpool manager Arne Slot has hit back at Everton’s David Moyes following his frustrations after the Merseyside Derby.

The Toffees were unable to take a point back to the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday after their defeat at Anfield.

Everton put in a solid showing following the early setbacks, but they were unable to completely turn the game around.

Moyes was not happy with referee Darren England, who seemingly was unable to manage the occasion on Saturday afternoon.

The Merseyside Derby has been known to be fierce in the past, but some strange yellow cards were handed out by the referee on Saturday.

After the game, Moyes shared his frustrations at the referee and Liverpool for time wasting at times.

This has since seen Slot defend his side.

Even former referee Mark Clattenburg questioned England’s Merseyside Derby decisions, which left those at Everton baffled.

Only adding three minutes on at the end of the game was something that particularly frustrated Moyes.

However, speaking to the media, Slot has shut down any suggestion that his side time waste following the 62-year-old’s post-game interview.

“Now that tells you, I think, all about the mentality we have, always wanting to score a goal,” Slot said.

“The three minutes were completely correct because there were only three moments where a substitution was made. There was no time-wasting because that’s not what we do and there was no treatment of injuries, one goal scored.

“Then you come to three [minutes]. Where in many other games when we need a goal, there’s a lot, a lot, a lot of time-wasting going on, I can tell you.”

Slot did praise Everton’s Jack Grealish ahead of the game at the weekend, but he completely spun the narrative following the game when it came to criticism on his side.

Everton were up against a number of things in that second half, whether Slot will admit it or not.

David Moyes left furious by Darren England’s decisions

There is no getting away from Everton’s poor start to the game, which allowed Liverpool to open up their two-goal lead.

But there were certainly some improvements made, with Everton pushing in the second half for an equaliser.

The Blues were not helped by the referee, though, and Moyes made England aware of his frustrations after the game.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Moyes vented his concerns about the referee’s performance at Anfield.

“They were trying to slow the game down at times. I’ve never seen a player in my whole life get booked for taking a quick free-kick. I don’t know where that rule has come in. Even the stoppage time, three minutes and one minute – I’ve never seen that in the Premier League in the last two or three years,” said Moyes.

“There were frustrations with the referee. Sometimes you want to let the game go, I completely get that, but you can’t not give us something and then two seconds later one of their defenders goes down after getting touched in the back and he gives it.”
