Everton fans are already excited for the summer – but it appears the Toffees face competition to land one target.
Everton were fairly quiet in the January window, only bringing in Carlos Alcaraz in the end.
Alcaraz joined on loan from Flamengo, with Everton having an option to buy.
David Moyes wasn’t keen to spend unnecessarily, and The Friedkin Group also had to be mindful of PSR.
But this summer, The Friedkin Group are expected to hand David Moyes a healthy transfer budget, and supporters are looking forward to seeing some cash being splashed.
But it’s possible Everton could be going after a player who currently stands to become a free agent.
Everton showed interest in Kyle Walker-Peters in January, but a move never materialised due to Southampton’s demands.
The Saints were thought to have been wanting at least £7 million, but Everton could go back in for him in the summer.
The big factor in Walker-Peters’ decision as Everton, Leeds and Leicester eye free swoop

It has been reported by TEAMtalk that Leeds United have now joined the hunt for Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Championship reportedly looked at him in January like Everton, and could attempt to move for him once again in the next window.
It is stated that he’s a player to keep an eye on in terms of incomings at Leeds.
But Everton are also mentioned, as are Leicester City.
And there is one thing that potentially puts Everton in a good position, and it’s the fact that Walker-Peters wants to stay playing in the Premier League.
Currently, Southampton are looking very likely to be relegated.
Leicester are in a very precarious position and are 19th in the table, and they could easily go down.
And Leeds are currently in the Championship, although they are pushing for automatic promotion and are currently second.
Everton, of course, moved onto 30 points in the Premier League at the weekend after beating Crystal Palace and are now looking highly likely to be a top-flight club once again next season.
Everton’s Walker-Peters interest could see Ashley Young leave
It will be interesting to see if Everton do try to push for Walker-Peters this summer.
Right-back is a position Everton undoubtedly need to address in the summer, and the interest in Walker-Peters may not bode well for Ashley Young.
Kyle Walker-Peters for Southampton (2024/25)
Appearances – 25
Minutes played – 2233
Goals – 0
Assists – 2
Yellow/red cards – 2/0
Young has arguably been one of Everton’s best players this season, but is one of several individuals out of contract at the end of the season as things currently stand.
It remains to be seen if the Toffees will extend his contract again.
But, assuming Everton stay up as expected now, Walker-Peters would make an excellent signing in a free transfer this summer, having been a shining light in a struggling Southampton side.
