A new era is about to begin on Merseyside as David Moyes returns to Everton for a second spell at the club.

Moyes has joined Everton on a two-year deal and will be in the dugout for the Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday.

The former West Ham United boss will be assessing the squad over the coming week and making key decisions around the transfers, as the window nears the mid-way point.

The Toffees are in desperate need of a striker and that’s an area in which Moyes will likely look to address first and foremost.

Though, it’s just emerged that he may have to contend with an exit as a Champions League club step up their pursuit of an Everton star.

Atalanta send representative for Dominic Calvert-Lewin talks

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been attracting interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Atalanta in recent weeks as he enters the final six months of his contract.

Though, it’s actually the Serie A side who seem to have stolen a march on his signature, as they’ve sent a representative to Merseyside.

The Atalanta chief is set to engage in talks with the Toffees in a bid to land Calvert-Lewin on a pre-contract agreement.

The ‘outstanding’ Calvert-Lewin is due to become a free agent in the summer so he can agree his next move this month.

Though, Atalanta are facing stiff competition from Newcastle in particular.

Newcastle ready to offer Calvert-Lewin big pay day in summer

If Calvert-Lewin snubs interest from clubs this month and plays out the final few months of his deal at Goodison Park, Newcastle will be prepared to offer him a big payday.

The Magpies have a long-standing interest in the 27-year-old and even tried to sign him last summer, though, that deal failed to materialise.

It appears Newcastle are best placed to land his signature but Atalanta are the only club making concrete steps at this stage.

Anyhow, Calvert-Lewin’s departure is almost inevitable and Moyes must be in the market for a long-term successor during this window.
