Everton know they need to add to their options at full-back this summer.

The Toffees do have a number of players to cover at right-back, but the other side of the pitch does not quite boast the same level of depth.

David Moyes wanted to sign a new left-back in January, but he was forced to settle for the loan addition of Carlos Alcaraz.

Everton do only have Vitaliy Mykolenko available as a senior left-back.

That has caused issues of late when Mykolenko suffered an injury following the international break last month.

With the summer transfer window now just a matter of weeks away, Everton have now identified one player from Europe to potentially add at left-back.

Everton eyeing deal for Clement Akpa

Everton have already discussed transfer targets ahead of the summer window opening for business.

There’s going to be considerable change behind the scenes on Merseyside with new faces brought in by the Friedkins at board level.

According to Foot Mercato, Everton are one of the sides who are showing a real interest in AJ Auxerre defender Clement Akpa.

Competition is going to be high for the signature of the Ivorian this summer with the following clubs credited with interest:

After impressing in his first year playing in the French top flight, Akpa is now subject of serious transfer interest ahead of the summer.

Everton are looking to hand Mykolenko a new deal, but there is still a pressing need to provide him with some cover and competition.

And the young Ivorian could well be that player after an impressive season for Mykolenko under his belt.

Who is Clement Akpa?

Although Akpa has played the majority of his games this season at centre-back, he has also shown he is capable of playing at left-back.

There may well be similarities drawn with what Jake O’Brien has done on the right side of the defence under Moyes.

Adding a versatile defender like Akpa could prove a smart move by the Toffees.

“He’s a player who works a lot, having made very good and quick progress. At the beginning of this season, I did not think he would be one of the most used players,” said his manager to Ligue 1 website.

“His qualities, playing with a lot of dynamism and speed, have allowed him to develop fully in this system. He asks a lot of questions about the game and what he needs to do to move forward.”
