All eyes are on The Friedkin Group at the moment to see what big chances they’ll make at Everton in 2025.
TFG took over at Everton in December after months of talks, and fans are optimistic that they will get the club back to where it needs to be.
The new Everton owners have already made a big decision at Goodison Park, bringing back David Moyes for a second spell as manager.
This, after Sean Dyche had informed The Friedkin Group he’d taken Everton as far as he could.
It was a decision TFG didn’t really want to make, but in the end they had no choice.
One of the other big decisions that’s on the agenda for TFG is the director of football position, with the future of current incumbent Kevin Thelwell in doubt.
And now, a very interesting claim has been made with regard to a potential successor.
The Friedkin Group looking at David Weir as potential new Everton director of football

It has been claimed this evening ahead of the Merseyside Derby with Liverpool, that The Friedkin Group have placed former Everton defender David Weir among their chief targets to take over as the club’s new director of football.
Weir currently holds the position at Brighton, having succeeded Dan Ashworth in 2022. Prior to that, Weir had been their loans manager.
Weir, of course, was actually captain at Everton under Moyes during his first stint as manager.
The claim casts doubt on the future of Kevin Thelwell, who is on a fixed-term contract at Everton. That contract is up at the end of the season.
There has not yet been any word from TFG regarding his position at the club.
The Esk had also suggested last month that Weir could be in the frame for Everton.
Everton expected to replace Kevin Thelwell
Last week, Everton News was told that the expectation is that Kevin Thelwell will be replaced as director of football.
Graeme Bailey told us: “He has had to navigate through some tough times and The Friedkin Group know that.
“But they are looking at other names and I am told the feeling is that there will be a change in that department.”
