David Moyes has work to do as £17m Everton transfer target could now link up with Neal Maupay

Everton will look to strengthen this summer and most positions in the team will be looked at – especially those at the top end of the pitch.

Goalscoring has been a real problem again for Everton in 2024/25, although most of the struggles came under Sean Dyche.

Everton have been heading in the right direction under David Moyes.

But if Everton are to do anything significant next season, then Moyes will need more quality in the final third.

New forwards will be paramount for Everton. Both Jesper Lindstrom and Jack Harrison have really disappointed, and it would be a surprise if either saw their loan moves turned permanent.

One player Everton hold an interest in is Manor Solomon of Tottenham Hotspur.

But there’s been a development today to suggest that Moyes and the Everton recruitment team have some work to do to sign him.

It’s been reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri that Solomon, who spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Leeds United, is actually keen to make a move to Marseille this summer.

Apparently, they have been scouting the Israeli international – and the player is open to the move.

Supposedly Solomon’s parent club Spurs will demand around £17 million to sell.

In news that is potentially ominous for Everton, Marseille are said to have already opened talks with Solomon’s entourage regarding a potential transfer.

Roberto De Zerbi has personally backed a move for the 25-year-old.

But there is some positive news for Everton on this, and that is that Marseille and Tottenham are yet to actually hold talks about a potential transfer.

Should Solomon seal this particular move, then it would likely see him link up with Neal Maupay. Marseille are obligated to buy Maupay this summer, but that said, there is also a chance the French club could immediately look to offload him.

The summer transfer window is obviously yet to open officially.

But everyone knows that groundwork is laid weeks and sometimes even months beforehand when it comes to player transfers.

Marseille are supposedly already in contact with Solomon and his team, which isn’t ideal if Everton do indeed want the player.

Appearances – 41
Minutes played – 2705
Goals – 10
Assists – 13

Everton therefore need to start making some moves if he’s a player they want.

Solomon contributed 10 goals and 13 assists in 41 appearances for Leeds in their brilliant 2024/25 season, and there is an argument to say that he’d be an upgrade on both Harrison and Lindstrom.

One would imagine Leeds will look to try and sign Solomon permanently after his great season, so certainly, Everton have plenty to do here. Last month there was a suggestion Solomon did want to rejoin Leeds.

The fact his stance now seems to have changed from that might give Everton some hope a deal can still be done.
