David Moyes was not impressed after Brentford embarrassed Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were expected to fare much better after beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 away from home on Tuesday.

However, they were significantly outplayed throughout the game and ultimately lost 4-2 to the Bees.

Moyes has now explained the big difference between the two teams, which was evident in their one-sided affair.

If you were forced to pick a MOTM vs Brentford, who would you go for?

Despite scoring twice in the second half, Moyes believes that Everton’s main problem is a lack of creativity.

He highlighted the absences of Iliman Ndiaye and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, which have left them particularly short of attacking options recently.

Moyes added that Everton are not able to show the same tactical flexibility as Brentford manager Keith Andrews and his team.

“We’re just lacking creativity,” said the Toffees boss, via X. “We’re lacking [Iliman] and Kiernan, who can score and make goals.

“The chances that I talked about in the opening 10 minutes that we didn’t take, I knew were going to come back to haunt us.

“Brentford have got that ability to play multiple different ways and [they have different] ways of scoring goals. We don’t really have that at the moment.

“We’ve been struggling to score goals, as everybody knows. We got two today in the end, but if you concede four in trying to get two…

“We could’ve shut up shop and stayed in, but we’re at home, so we’re trying to be creative, score goals and win, but we didn’t show up today. I didn’t like it really.”

This was a dismal performance from Everton…

David Moyes reflects on ‘difficult’ January for Everton

Moyes did not want to make excuses for Everton’s poor performance against Brentford, but it is impossible not to recognise the challenges they face.

The Toffees are missing several key players, which made their win against Forest all the more surprising.

“We got a brilliant result in midweek,” Moyes continued. “With the squad we’ve got, it was probably very difficult to see. But this is what we’ve got available at the moment.

“We’re having to try to find a way of getting results with it. It was always going to be a difficult month or so with injuries, suspensions, and obviously AFCON at the moment.”

Everton fans must be quietly hoping that Senegal are knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, so that Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye return soon.
