Everton are now pushing on in the summer window to land their first new signing.

David Moyes has been provided Carlos Alcaraz on a permanent basis after his short-term loan deal from Flamengo.

It has been a fairly slow start to the summer for the Blues, but the Friedkins are playing it very safe at Everton until the turn of the month.

When June is over and done with, Everton are expected to be busy in the transfer market as the new PSR window opens.

A lot of signings are needed for Moyes to really see his squad come together ahead of pre-season starting.

Everton are targeting a new midfielder, and there is now one player who the Toffees are leading the race to sign.

Everton and West Ham leading race for Raphael Onyedika

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s Everton future remains hanging in the balance as he is now just a matter of days away from becoming a free agent.

Moyes will require both quality and quantity this summer when it comes to adding to his midfield.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Everton and West Ham are the two clubs leading the race to sign Raphael Onyedika.

He did caveat the update by suggesting it is the Hammers who are showing the most concrete interest out of the two, though.

Club Brugge are open to potentially selling the midfielder this summer, but they will be demanding a €30m (£25m) fee.

Everton have also shown interest in Wilfred Ndidi, with a number of opportunities on the radar of Angus Kinnear.

But it does seem as if the Blues are looking to make a solid addition through the signing of Onyedika.

Everton are competing against Premier League rivals this summer

There is a lot of competition between Everton and some of their Premier League rivals for players in the market.

Everton have lost out on Liam Delap to Chelsea and face more battles to come against some other Premier League outfits.

But there will be some confidence on Merseyside of selling the project on offer.

Along with the new owners, Everton hope their new stadium will attract players this summer, and that could certainly provide an advantage over the Hammers.
