David Moyes tipped to make Everton free agency signing after double transfer blow

Everton’s deadline day was underwhelming, but David Moyes could still be in the market for players.

After nine new signings this season, Moyes’ squad looks a lot more refreshed for the season ahead.

Merlin Rohl’s loan move topped off a solid window, as the German adds to the Toffees’ much-needed midfield depth.

Everton’s business was a respectable 8.5/10, and The Friedkin Group should be pleased with the signings completed.

However, it could have gone up to the next level with another few players, and Moyes might have a trick up his sleeve for Everton.

Everton could sign free agent after missing out on a ‘couple of deals’ including Kellen Fisher

The need for a right back or a centre back was clear as the window went on, as Everton wanted two defenders on deadline day.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t achieved, and it stopped the window from becoming the perfect summer for the Blues.

Nevertheless, Everton.News’ transfer expert, Graeme Bailey, has stated that the free agent market could be an avenue Moyes explores after missing out on two deals.

“So I am told that Everton thought they were close on a couple of deals,” Bailey said.

“They looked at a few, like a Kellen Fisher, who they like, but David Moyes wanted experience.

“They are happy with what they did, but wanted more and will get through to January now, but I wouldn’t rule out a defender coming in via free agency.”

Fisher was the right back who seemed most likely to join, as the 21-year-old has impressed in the Championship for Norwich City.

But despite the blow dealt to Everton, the free agent world welcomes many possibilities, and two options give exactly what the Toffees need.

The two Premier League-experienced free agents Everton could sign in defence

It was disappointing to see the Blues not strengthen defensively, but the squad at Moyes’ disposal should be enough until January.

Judging by Everton’s start this season, it doesn’t appear to be a problem, especially with Jarrad Branthwaite also returning.

But with free agents looking to be on the mind of the Toffees boss, there are already two defenders with Premier League experience in the market.

One of which could be Kurt Zouma returning to Everton, as the 30-year-old knows the club and has proven key to West Ham in recent years.

The other, Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was a staple in Mikel Arteta’s defence for years, and is still in search of his next club, with his versatility of playing in the middle and on the right needed on Merseyside.

It will be interesting to see what direction Moyes goes in, but these are certainly two names to consider.
