Everton fans already have a poor relationship with VAR and the Premier League.
From the consensus of last season, it seemed as though Everton were on the wrong end of the stick when it came to refereeing decisions.
The alarming decision for Evertonians was VAR’s choice of not awarding a penalty vs Man United, as it looked a stonewall spot kick on Ashley Young.
The verdict certainly came with controversy as it could’ve potentially cost Everton the win with the score at 2-2, and to make matters worse, VAR failed to show the correct footage of Young being fouled.
Thankfully, the error didn’t have a major impact on David Moyes’ side’s season, but it turns out, the Scotsman shouldn’t have any complaints anyway.

Everton will be shocked at Premier League VAR discovery
Moyes still has every right to be frustrated by the decision not to award the penalty, as United got away with one.
It’s not always on VAR though, as refereeing errors in themselves were known to disrupt Everton’s momentum under Moyes, as during the 2-0 defeat to Man City late on in the season, Jeremy Doku carried the ball out of play with the error leading to City’s second goal.
These are just a few cases of the errors made against Everton during the season, but what’s actually come to light is astonishing.
ESPN carried out research on the 20 teams in the Premier League that benefited the most from wrong VAR decisions.
Remarkably, Everton are joint top with Brighton for the most benefited clubs from VAR’s mistakes, with three being outlined.

The three mistakes VAR made which Everton benefited from
It can be stressed that this research from the outlet might not be entirely accurate, considering the VAR mistake against United.
Nevertheless, there were three errors which should have been corrected by VAR, as fans will no doubt agree with the decisions which were deemed to be faults.
The first one came in the November encounter against Brentford, as Christian Norgaard was given his marching orders for a studs-up challenge on Jordan Pickford, which was only given after a VAR review.
Norgaard’s red was later overturned after major appeals from the Brentford camp, after Thomas Frank was in disbelief.
The next decision came in Everton’s 4-0 thrashing of Wolves, as despite the onslaught, Iliman Ndiaye blocked off Wolves keeper Jose Sa, which led to Craig Dawson scoring his first own goal of the game.
Finally, the one which should have no arguments from Everton’s side of things was James Tarkowski somehow getting away with not receiving a red card for his challenge on Alexis Mac Allister in the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Despite VAR deeming the tackle ‘reckless’, Tarkowski remained on the pitch.
Everton topping this list could be slightly harsh and bring surprise to Moyes, especially after the errors made against them this season, but there is no denying these three mistakes were howlers.
