A round-up of the latest Everton news as AS Roma target the transfer of a Sean Dyche outcast and the Toffees approach Liverpool about signing a ‘special’ player in January.
AS Roma target Ben Godfrey’s transfer from Everton
AS Roma are interested in signing Everton defender Ben Godfrey during the January transfer window but have a miniscule budget. That is according to Corriere dello Sport, which claims that the Giallorossi only have €1.5m (£1.3m) to spend, which must account for all likely fees.
The Serie A side are working with their backs to walls this month to give boss Jose Mourinho new talents. Roma are also looking to send Renato Sanches back to Paris Saint-Germain and possibly sell Leonardo Spinazzola. But their potential replacements are proving out of reach.

So, Roma sporting director Tiago Pinto has now begun to study the conditions Everton could demand for Godfrey’s transfer. He believes the centre-half would improve Mourinho’s squad and be ready for action. Pinto doubts Crystal Palace ace Rob Holding would be an instant hit.
Blues boss Dyche rarely affording Godfrey minutes in the Premier League so far this season is tempting Pinto to target the Everton defender’s transfer to Roma. The 25-year-old has just 90 minutes to his name from two appearances despite featuring in each of Dyche’s 20 sides.

Everton approach Liverpool over a shock transfer for Fabio Carvalho
Everton are among a clutch of clubs to have approached Liverpool about a potential January transfer for midfielder Fabio Carvalho. That is according to Rudy Galetti, who claims that the Blues have asked for information on the 21-year-old’s availability for a half-season loan deal.
Carvalho has returned to Anfield after failing to establish himself at RB Leipzig over the first half of the campaign. But Liverpool will let the Portuguese talent go back out on loan during the winter window. The Reds will also let Carvalho have a say in which club he signs for next.
Everton and Wolves are two of the Premier League teams interested in signing Carvalho in a half-season loan transfer. He can also drop down to the Championship with runaway leaders Leicester City. But his game time will, no doubt, prove a main topic during any negotiations.
The Under 21 international only played 158 minutes over nine games in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig. He further only featured for 360 minutes over 15 outings in all competitions. The playmaker also failed to score or lay on an assist to see RB Leipzig end Carvalho’s loan deal.
Carvalho has shown potential in England with Fulham and for Liverpool after leaving Craven Cottage in 2022. He had 44 first-team games in west London for 12 goals and eight assists. While Klopp has called Carvalho ‘special’ amid three goals in 21 games for Liverpool to date.

Everton admire Kasey McAteer but have a ‘slim chance’ at a transfer

Everton admire Kasey McAteer but have a ‘slim chance’ at signing the Leicester forward over the January transfer market. That is according to the Daily Mail, which reports that the Blues have eyes on the winger. But the Foxes are loath to let the 22-year-old star leave this month.
McAteer has helped fuel Leicester’s rise to a 10-point lead atop the Championship table so far this season with four goals. He has also started in eight of the forward’s 12 appearances from their 26 second-tier games. But Leicester have McAteer under contract to June 2025.
This term is also McAteer’s first campaign in the first-team fold at the King Power Stadium. He had only enjoyed four senior appearances at the Foxes prior to their relegation. McAteer also spent time on loan with Forest Green Rovers in 2022 and AFC Wimbledon during 2023.
