Everton’s transfer business has certainly come under scrutiny over recent years and last summer’s work provided mixed success.

The Friedkin Group have steadied the ship on Merseyside, but Everton supporters now want to see tangible progress made.

A huge opportunity for European qualification was missed by David Moyes and his side, with a more consistent source of goals needed ahead of next season.

That was a disgraceful performance from Everton… something has to change! 😤

Thierno Barry has come under scrutiny this season, but Everton are now eyeing another striker in Karl Etta Eyong who scored even fewer than the 23-year-old on Merseyside.

Everton set to battle Barcelona for Karl Etta Eyong

Everton have a long-standing interest in Etta Eyong, which spans back to the winter market earlier in the year.

However, the Toffees are not alone in the pursuit of the 22-year-old forward.

A report from Mundo Deportivo has shared Everton’s interest in the Cameroonian striker, which is shared by Tottenham Hotspur.

There is not just interest coming from the Premier League, though, with the Levante attacker himself dreaming of a move to Barcelona.

It is claimed Etta Eyong is aware of Barcelona’s striker situation and believes he could be the man to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Everton are keen to sign a new striker, but whether Etta Eyong is the right man or not is another question entirely.

Karl Etta Eyong endured a worse season than Thierno Barry

Everton supporters will be desperate to see a proven, established striker join the club this summer, yet the interest in Etta Eyong may suggest the club are heading in a familiar direction.

Since signing last summer, Barry has endured a turbulent spell on Merseyside.

A lot of Everton fans want to see Barry sold this summer on the back of his torrid start to life at the club.

It must be noted, however, that even in Barry’s underwhelming start to life at Everton, he has still scored more league goals than Etta Eyong managed this season.

If that does not strike fear into Everton supporters then nothing will.

Fans will be hoping lessons have been learned on the back of last summer’s transfer window, but this rumour may suggest otherwise.
