Everton could be set for another approach from Manchester United to sign one of their top players in January.

The past few weeks have put a slight dampener on Everton’s start to the 2025/26 campaign.

David Moyes saw his Everton team selection slammed following the Carabao Cup defeat against Wolves on Tuesday night.

Injuries have plagued Everton in the opening stages of the new season, but there were no excuses for the result on Tuesday evening.

Jarrad Branthwaite remains unavailable through injury having not played a minute of the new season.

Despite having a number of injury issues in defence, the Toffees have held fairly strong at the back this season.

However, that defensive unit is expected to be tested in January, with Manchester United eyeing a swoop for one specific player.

Everton set for Man United and Liverpool interest in Jarrad Branthwaite

It has to be noted that Branthwaite has just signed a new contract at Everton, and the defender has not even played a competitive match yet under that new deal.

But strong interest reportedly remains from other Premier League sides.

According to Caught Offside, Manchester United are expected to make a £60m bid for Branthwaite in the January window.

The report does also suggest that Liverpool could even become involved in the possible pursuit to pull the defender away from the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It is even claimed that Branthwaite would be open to a move away from Everton if a ‘big club’ was to come knocking.

This report comes just days after it was suggested that The Friedkin Group have no intentions of selling Branthwaite in the coming year.

Man United and Liverpool may well hold an interest in Branthwaite, but there is no indication from Everton’s side that he will be going anywhere anytime soon.

Everton would value Branthwaite much higher than £60m

Earlier this year, when Branthwaite was receiving interest, a much larger price tag was put on him and that was before he signed his new deal.

It was suggested that Everton would require a bid of £70m for Branthwaite to even open the conversation about a potential deal.

Now, with a new deal inked, suggestion of a £60m bid landing will simply be laughed away by The Friedkin Group.

And the notion of Everton sanctioning a sale of that size in January will also humour fans, with the new owners looking to make big improvements on Merseyside.

Mark Travers has hailed Branthwaite as an ‘important player’ at Everton and the club will not be looking to allow him to leave just yet.
