Everton have an issue at left-back with a lack of quality and a lack of options beginning to hurt the Toffees.
Sean Dyche’s side are in need of serious improvement over the coming weeks with Everton failing to pull away from the danger zone.
The January transfer window is now open for business and The Friedkin Group have arrived just in time to provide the Blues with a potential winter boost.
Everton are eyeing two additions in January with a midfielder and new forward on the club’s radar.
However, there is also an understanding that left-back is also a position needing to be addressed with a potential opportunity arising.

Everton should move for Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters
One of the biggest issues for the Toffees this season has been at left-back with Vitaliy Mykolenko being slammed as a weak link for Everton.
According to Sky Sports, Leicester City are eyeing a potential move for the Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters.
The 27-year-old is set to come to the end of his contract with the Saints at the end of the season following his move from Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.
This is an opportunity which could really appeal to a club like Everton who could do with strengthening at full-back.
Seamus Coleman’s future at Everton is uncertain as he is also set to see his contract come to an end in the summer.
And landing a player like Walker-Peters would provide Everton with a real versatile option as he is capable of playing on both sides of the defence.
Walker-Peters could offer an upgrade on Vitaliy Mykolenko
Dyche criticised Mykolenko during the draw against Manchester City after he gave away a penalty in the second half.
Walker-Peters may not be playing for one of the top Premier League sides providing tons of goals and assists, but his former manager Ruben Selles hailed him ‘extraordinary’ to The Athletic.
| 2024/25 | Kyle Walker-Peters | Vitaliy Mykolenko |
|---|---|---|
| Assists | 2 | 0 |
| Pass completion | 89.6% | 75.8% |
| Shot-creating actions per 90 | 1.73 | 1.2 |
| Progressive yards per 90 | 149.9 | 44.7 |
Everton fans have been left frustrated by Mykolenko, but Everton do not have any real competition for the Ukraine international at left-back.
The only issue Everton may have is prising a regular starter away from a Southampton side who may look at the Toffees as a relegation rival.
But Southampton may welcome an offer to save potentially losing the defender for free in the summer.
