A round-up of the latest Everton news as the Toffees hear of their 2023 decision that could now allow Sean Dyche’s club to avoid a second penalty for breaching FFP rules.
Everton are interested in Boulaye Dia’s transfer from Salernitana
Salernitana forward Boulaye Dia is now attracting interest from Everton and a raft of Premier League clubs for a January transfer. That is according to Cronachesalerno, which notes that the 27-year-old may leave the Granata if his Serie A side receives offers worth €20m (£17m).
Dia is currently sidelined with an injury and has struggled for form at times this term. But he is on the radars of Everton, West Ham United and Wolves with Salernitana open to his exit. Eintracht Frankfurt also lead the race to get the Senegal striker’s signature in a January deal.

Everton still have a chance to beat Eintracht Frankfurt to Dia’s transfer with Salernitana yet to agree on terms. AC Milan and Fiorentina are also opting against advancing their interest now over the Granata’s asking price. He has only scored four goals in 13 2023/24 Serie A games.

Sean Dyche issues an honest verdict on Everton’s January plans
Everton boss Dyche has admitted that the Goodison Park natives may face a ‘quiet’ January transfer window. The Toffees are keen to strengthen in the mid-season sales and will chase deals where appropriate. But the Merseyside outfit are working with a very minute budget.
Dyche also conceded that director of football Kevin Thelwell faced a ‘very hard’ window last summer given their tight finances. Everton managed to get Beto and Youssef Chermiti while loaning Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison. The Toffees also hired free agent Ashley Young.
But to help get their summer swoops over the line, Everton sold Alex Iwobi and Damari Gray. The Blues also offloaded Everton academy graduates in Tom Cannon and Ellis Simms. So, Dyche expects a quiet January window unless Thelwell sells more of Everton’s fringe players.
“To do any deal, there has to be finance,” Dyche said at his press conference on Wednesday. “The club has to be in [a] situation to do the deal. Kev had to work very hard to construct deals in the summer.
“We managed to rebalance the squad the best we could but we had to lose some players, as well. The situation [now] is similar but different. You never know with the twists and turns of football how deals present themselves. But, at the moment, it’s very likely to be quiet.”

Everton could escape a second penalty for FFP breaches

Everton could escape a second penalty for breaching the Premier League’s FFP rules thanks to the sale of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire believes the winger’s £45m transfer last January should ensure the Blues were in the black.
Maguire notes that the Premier League is expected to charge a club soon for breaching FFP rules between the 2019/20 and 2022/23 seasons. Everton are also a potential victim, which may yield the Blues’ second points deduction after breaching FFP from 2018/19 to 2021/22.
Everton exceeded the Premier League’s £105m limit for losses over a three-year period with losses of £124.5m. An independent commission slapped Everton with a 10-point deduction for the breach in November. But Maguire believes Everton should avoid a second deduction.
Maguire has told The Price of Football: “The speculation is that club could be Everton, who would be charged for last season’s accounts. I got the spreadsheet out and Everton, I think, will be just about okay because they’ve sold Anthony Gordon. And we’ve always said if you sell one of your academy players, [it counts as pure profit].”
