Everton kick off this weekend’s Premier League action with a game at home against Manchester United.

It has been a really encouraging past month for Everton who have seen their relegation worries put behind them.

David Moyes’ return to Merseyside has provided quite the turnaround with the Blues now sitting above their opponents on Saturday.

Arne Slot praised Everton after the Merseyside Derby and the Toffees were able to add to the result with a big win on the road over the weekend.

Everton will be eyeing revenge for their 4-0 thumping earlier in the season and three points would take them four clear of United.

However, there has been some news which may not go down very well among some Everton fans.

Premier League announce officials for Everton vs Man United

Moyes was wowed by Carlos Alcaraz on the weekend against Palace, but attention will now be fully on the task at hand this weekend.

Everton are on a fine run of form and will be looking to see the remainder of the season out in style at Goodison Park.

But their fans may now be concerned by the Premier League’s appointment of Andy Madley as the referee and Matt Donohue on VAR.

It was just a few months ago when Donohue disallowed Beto’s late equaliser against Southampton, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.

Speaking on Sky Sports at the time, Mike Dean commented on Donohue’s decision: “I think to be fair it’s only Matt [Donohue]’s second time doing the VAR. He got one last week and he’s doing one this week. It is very, very tight,” he said.

“You can tell by the way we’ve both had two different opinions. It could go either way, they’re gonna put the lines on.”

It was one of those extremely tight offside calls which did not go in Everton’s favour.

And the Everton fans will just be hoping this does not repeat itself on the weekend with three points potentially taking them – realistically – up to 13th.

Andy Madley appointed referee for Everton vs Man United

The appointment of Madley as the referee is another which could cause frustration among the fanbases.

Madley was recently criticised for his display in Manchester United’s FA Cup clash against Arsenal back in January.

And in previous years, he has endured some poor performances, with Everton’s away trip to Sheffield United in 2023 being one Toffees will remember.

Madley has since performed well in last season’s Merseyside Derby, but there is going to be a keen eye on the officials after some of their recent showings involving Everton.
