Everton frustration as one major issue is holding up shock transfer deal with Leeds United

Everton have found themselves coming up against Leeds United for a number of different targets this summer already.

David Moyes and the Friedkins will be looking to put some daylight between themselves and the relegation battle this season.

It has been a number of years since Everton have found themselves looking up the table rather than down it, but brighter times are being promised.

Everton are being backed by their new owners in the market, with plenty of additions needed to improve quality and bolster squad numbers.

Although it has been a slow start to the window, Everton and Leeds have both eyed Sean Longstaff, amongst a host of other names.

However, there is now a potential deal between the two clubs now being held up because of a major issue that has arisen.

Everton return for Jack Harrison being held by Leeds United issue

Jack Harrison departed Finch Farm to return to Thorp Arch at the end of his Everton loan just a matter of weeks ago.

Reports are now suggesting Everton could launch a return for Harrison ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

However, according to BBC Sport, Everton would be keen to take Harrison back to Merseyside this summer on a free transfer.

The winger currently has three years remaining on his Leeds deal, which would require the Whites to strike an agreement for an early termination.

Obviously, that would require Leeds to stump up a portion – or potentially all – of Harrison’s wages, and there is a concern this would lead to a significant PSR headache for the Whites.

Everton are navigating their own PSR position, with the Friedkins considering selling Everton’s Women’s team.

Premier League clubs are getting clever when it comes to ways around PSR, but it is clear the newly-promoted side are looking to play it extremely safe following their return to the big time.

Everton should consider other free agent options

It is claimed Everton have around £100m to spend this summer, which is going to require the club to get clever with free agents and loan signings.

Everton are, therefore, looking to make a free transfer deal work for Harrison, who has spent the last two seasons away from his parent club.

But Moyes is looking for significant improvement ahead of the new season kicking off, and questions will be raised about the ambition if Harrison returns.

Everton fans slammed the idea of Harrison returning following what was frankly a dreadful campaign for the winger.

An exciting new chapter is being promised with the move to the new stadium, and it feels like the perfect opportunity for the Blues to move on from their past.
