Everton have been handed a huge boost to their summer plans with Idrissa Gana Gueye signing a new deal.

David Moyes has been left waiting on a number of contract decisions this summer before the Toffees had a true reflection of what they need in the market.

There was a big emphasis being put on Everton securing Gueye’s future with a new deal, but the Blues can finally push on in the market.

Everton are keen to improve their midfield with some new faces to build around their Senegal veteran.

Injury to Orel Mangala provided some Everton players an opportunity to showcase their worth last season, but the season ended with some questions still needing to be answered.

It has been suggested that Everton are interested in signing Douglas Luiz, and Alan Myers has now shared what he has heard about the interest in the midfielder.

Alan Myers issues Douglas Luiz to Everton update

Reports earlier this week have claimed that Everton have made contact to sign Luiz from Juventus.

The midfielder has now been playing his football away from the Premier League after leaving Aston Villa back in 2024.

However, taking to social media, Alan Myers has thrown some cold water on the suggestions Luiz could make a return to England with Everton.

Responding to a question on the reported interest, Myers very simply responded: “I’ve not heard that.”

It may not be what some Everton fans will want to hear, but it seems as if there may not be a huge deal of credibility in the reports.

The Friedkins have made contact with Richard Rios, but there is a major caveat as they want to sign him for AS Roma.

There is a clear desire at Everton to improve the quality of the options in midfield, but the Toffees also have Harrison Armstrong, who’s looking to impress Moyes this summer.

Harrison Armstrong could solve Everton’s problems

With pre-season now underway, a lot of people within Everton will have their eyes on Armstrong’s performances.

During his spell out on loan, Armstrong really impressed at Derby County in what was his first spell away from the Toffees.

Returning to the club at the end of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, Moyes admitted Armstrong will be given an opportunity this summer to show what he can do.

Everton will have to add to their options regardless of whether Armstrong does enough.

But the youngster could transform Everton’s midfield if he is able to prove he is capable of playing regular Premier League football.
