Everton handed unexpected second chance to sign Kyle Walker-Peters after major twist

Everton are in the market to add to their options at full-back this summer.

It is no secret that Everton are lacking in quality depth at both right-back and left-back as they edge closer to the start of the new season.

David Moyes has targeted full-back additions for months, and there has still not been any defensive signings made in the market.

The Toffees survived last season with Vitaliy Mykolenko and Jake O’Brien not exactly being pushed by other players for their starting spots.

Moyes is aware that both quality and quantity are needed this summer on Merseyside.

Following recent developments at the club, Moyes is demanding more signings to be made ahead of their pre-season trip to the United States.

And it now seems one target that seemed to be off the cards is now suddenly back on the table after a sudden twist.

Besiktas hand Everton fresh chance at Kyle Walker-Peters

Everton have shown an interest in Kyle Walker-Peters, who entered the summer market as a free agent.

However, the full-back looked destined for a move to Besiktas with his medical lined up ahead of the move.

In a sudden turn of events, Besiktas have announced they have pulled out of a deal for Walker-Peters, who will now test the market again.

“It is publicly known that the arrival of professional football player Kyle Walker-Peters, with whom we previously announced an agreement in principle and invited him to Istanbul for a medical examination, has been postponed,” Besiktas said.

“Today, Kyle Walker-Peters notified us, requesting an extension. Consequently, our club has withdrawn its transfer. Our club continues its transfer efforts in accordance with its established policy. We respectfully inform the public.”

Earlier this month, Tottenham Hotspur pulled out of the race to sign Walker-Peters, who has been hailed as ‘fantstic’, which leaves Everton in a great position to land the defender.

What will be interesting to know is why the Englishman delayed his medical with Besiktas, though.

Everton need to utilise the free agents market

It will be a huge surprise to everyone on Merseyside that they have been handed another opportunity at signing Walker-Peters.

On face value, this is the type of deal which the Blues need to take up.

Everton have around £100m to spend this summer, and they spent £27m on Thierno Barry already.

With so many positions to fill, loan signings and free agent additions could be crucial to the success of Everton’s window.

If there are no issues of note following the saga with Besiktas, this feels like a home run for Everton.
