One former Everton player has shockingly admitted that he played a lot of his games on Merseyside whilst carrying an injury.

David Moyes will be all too familiar with injury issues plaguing his squad, given a number of problems have already occurred this season.

Everton have a number of players currently sidelined through injury setbacks, with some yet to even play this season.

After suffering an injury during pre-season, Jarrad Branthwaite is nearing an Everton return as he steps up his rehabilitation at Finch Farm.

He is not the only player to have suffered an issue, with the likes of Merlin Rohl and Vitaliy Mykolenko also enduring their own problems this season.

But there is one former Everton player who has admitted he often played through injury whilst at Goodison Park.

Tim Howard shares Everton injury issues that plagued his career

Back in the summer, Tim Howard urged Moyes to sanction a squad overhaul at Everton, with the Toffees eyeing European qualification.

Howard played for Everton in their 2009/10 Europa League campaign under the 62-year-old manager.

Speaking on the Unfiltered Soccer podcast, Howard admitted a lot of his time on Merseyside was played through injury issues.

“You know the same people I do at Everton, the availability was always at the forefront.” said the American.

“You know the physio, if I had to not train as hard, I just needed to get to the opening whistle and I had to perform, I was injured a lot, but you just didn’t know it.”

Howard played a staggering 310 appearances under Moyes during his time on Merseyside and was even able to find the back of the net on one occasion.

After returning to Merseyside earlier in the year, Howard was stunned by the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but he did not play in the legends game – perhaps due to injury.

What Tim Howard said about David Moyes and Sir Alex Ferguson

Having played for both Everton and Manchester United, Howard was able to play under some serious managers.

Howard shared his love for Goodison Park earlier this year ahead of the move to the new stadium on the docks.

The American goalkeeper has also shared his love for playing under Everton’s current manager, Moyes.

“Best manager? David Moyes. I spent nearly a decade with him. He bought me to the football club and loved me and my teammates, cared about us and created a family bond,” he told The Mirror.

“We won a lot of games, had a few good cup runs, in Europe a bit. Yeah, David Moyes, brilliant.”

Jack Grealish has also praised Moyes recently, following his bright start to the new campaign on Merseyside.
