Everton have reportedly made an offer to sign Emil Holm from Bologna – but there’s something about the defender which is not ideal.
David Moyes’ side have been quiet so far in the January transfer window, to the frustration of fans.
The Toffees had a bad week last week, but remain in a good position to attack the second half of the season.
There is still a reasonable chance of European football. It’s just about how ambitious The Friedkin Group are feeling.
It’s been claimed loans are more likely for Everton. However, it was reported yesterday that a player-plus-cash offer has been made for right-back Emil Holm.
Everton offered cash plus Nathan Patterson for Holm, and it remains to be seen if the swoop will be successful.
He looks a decent player – but there is something about him that isn’t so ideal.
Emil Holm’s injury record is a slight concern

When it comes to signing new players, it’s always important to ensure that they have good injury records.
Durability and availability are two hugely underrated qualities, and there are few things more frustrating than when a player is constantly in the treatment room.
Unfortunately, Holm does not have the greatest injury record.
As per Transfermarkt, Holm has already missed seven games this term, with muscular issues the main reason.
Five assists this season… this would be a huge upgrade for Everton! 🤩
Could this be the right-back Everton need to transform the team?
In 2024/25, he picked up five injuries, causing him to miss 10 games.
In 2023/24, he again missed 10 games, suffering with two injuries.
And in 2022/23, he missed 17 games in total.
His record indicates he has had a wide variety of injuries, including to his hamstring, calf, knee, ankle and groin.
Everton taking a risk with Holm
That Holm has missed at least 10 games per season prior to the current campaign is worrying – and he is on course to do that again this term.
We have seen the effect that injuries have had on Everton recently, with momentum really halting recently.

It perhaps does suggest that looking to include Patterson in the deal maybe isn’t a wise idea.
If Holm signs and does end up picking up an injury, it wouldn’t be so bad if Patterson was still around to cover, rather than have Jake O’Brien be that man.
