Everton are set to lose out on a transfer target they’ve held discussions about, as Tottenham are moving quickly.

August is set to be a month of hope for Everton as David Moyes looks to get his remaining deals over the line.

After another pre-season defeat, this time at the hands of West Ham, Moyes’ frustration with minimal signings will only increase.

The Scotsman wants to deliver in his second spell with the Toffees, and The Friedkin Group must make sure his requirements are fulfilled.

One player that the club have already had talks about could now be on his way to the Premier League, but in the form of Tottenham.

Tottenham in talks with Everton target Joao Palhinha over loan deal

The next area that needs the 62-year-old’s prayers answered is the middle of the park, as Idrissa Gana Gueye is crying out for a midfield partner.

Although Harrison Armstrong impressed for Everton against West Ham, his lack of experience may see a starting place as a risk.

This has led to Everton holding talks over Joao Palhinha due to the Bayern Munich midfielder being on his way out of Germany, with Spurs looking to be the team to land him.

Sky Sports are reporting that a loan deal is being worked on between the former Fulham midfielder and Thomas Frank’s side.

This will surely only add to Moyes’ frustration, who has drawn up Palhinha as the type of midfielder he wants.

It’s up to the Toffees to put their hat in the ring, and former manager Marco Silva would seemingly say it’s a no-brainer.

Marco Silva will know Joao Palhinha is a great signing for Everton

Many fans will know that Palhinha was a big success under Silva at Fulham.

During the manager’s time at Everton, there was a track record of building up some brilliant midfielders, including the likes of Gueye himself, who got his move to PSG in 2019.

The Fulham boss did this with Palhinha as he secured his move to Bayern last summer, but due to it not working out, he’s back on the market.

Silva is a big fan of the 30-year-old, as in a post-match press conference after a draw to Brighton in October 2023, he couldn’t praise the midfielder enough.

“He leads through his attitude; he’s not the most vocal guy, and he’s improving his English as well. I want him to be more vocal, and in that position it’s important,” Silva said.

“His attitude, his commitment, the way he leads the others around are things that are hard to find in football.

“In moments (when) we lose the ball, his reaction is impressive, and we want to take the best from him.”

Moyes wants ‘character’ with his signings, and after his development with the Cottagers and the former Toffees manager, he has this in abundance.

Tottenham lead the race, so it’s now Everton’s chance to react, as Palhinha could be a revolutionary signing this summer.
