Beto’s Everton future could come under doubt as a Champions League club are showing an interest in his signature.

David Moyes has signed Thierno Barry for around £27m from Villarreal, so he is expected to be the starting striker this season.

That means Beto will likely be dropped to the bench, which has alerted a number of interested suitors both domestically and overseas.

Leeds United have made Beto a target, whilst clubs in Italy and Portugal are also circling the former Udinese man.

Now, there has been a fresh transfer development on his Everton situation.

Atalanta targeting Everton’s Beto after striker leaves

Beto really improved under Moyes and ended the season strongly, netting a commendable 12 goals across all competitions.

However, his prolific run of form did slow down towards the end of the campaign, which prompted Moyes to go out and sign Barry.

Now, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Tutto Mercato Web, Atalanta are eyeing Beto to replace Mateo Retegui, who has joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah in a £56m deal.

Atalanta were interested in Beto last summer and have reignited their interest in the 27-year-old ahead of the fast-approaching 2025/26 season.

Earlier in the window, Everton were demanding £21m to sell Beto.

Everton can’t afford to sell Beto without a replacement

After Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja’s departures, Everton are pretty light in the number nine position.

If Beto were to be sold, it would leave Barry as the only senior striker at the club, with Yousseff Chermiti yet to prove himself in the first team.

So, Moyes is unlikely to sanction Beto’s sale without a replacement ready to join, which certainly is a possibility.

The Toffees have explored a deal to sign Hamza Igamane from Rangers, whilst Millwall’s Mihailo Ivanovic has been linked to Finch Farm.

Igamane and Ivanovic are both available for around £15m, so they would be feasible deals to complete.
