Everton are operating under a new recruitment model this summer transfer window.

The Friedkin Group identified the average age of the squad as a concern that needed addressing, as only West Ham United and Fulham had an older group.

As such, Everton have implemented a new transfer policy which focuses on signing young talent with lofty potential.

That’s already amplified by the additions of Carlos Alcaraz and Thierno Barry, who are both at the start of promising careers.

Now, Everton are eyeing another exciting young talent and he’s actually best mates with Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal.

Everton targeting Lamine Yamal’s best friend Adam Aznou

Everton are seriously interested in signing Adam Aznou from Bayern Munich as they look to upgrade on Vitaliy Mykolenko.

Aznou only turned 19 last month, so clearly his potential arrival would significantly lower the average age of the squad.

The Moroccan joined Bayern from Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy in 2022 and interestingly, he was and still is very good friends with Yamal.

“Yes, I’m still in contact with some of the boys from my cohort,” Aznou explained.

“I also have a very good relationship with Lamine Yamal. We get on really well. Lamine and I played together at youth level for Spain for a few years and, of course, at Barca.”

Vincent Kompany impressed by Aznou

Aznou has struggled for game time at Bayern and was forced to go out on loan to Real Valladolid during the winter transfer window.

However, manager Vincent Kompany has still been impressed by his ability in training.

“Aznou is doing excellent work,” Kompany said.

“He faces strong competition, as it is Bayern Munich after all, but we often discuss the moments when players can establish themselves as key members of the team. He is progressing step by step.”

Perhaps the German champions will only consider a loan for Aznou, given Kompany’s admiration for the teenager.

A telling few weeks await on Merseyside.
