Everton have just one final game to play at Goodison Park before they make their move to their new home.

Sunday is set to be an emotional day on Merseyside with Everton playing for the final time at their historic ground.

Goodison Park has collected so many memories during its time as the home of Everton Football Club.

But the game against Southampton on the weekend is set to be the final time the club will play in L4 as they are set to move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

However, it is claimed the Friedkins are looking to use Goodison Park for the Women’s team which could save it from being demolished.

That is something which may not go down well with all Everton fans who may now feel Sunday will not actually be a goodbye to Goodison.

And former Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has now had his say on the possibility of Goodison Park remaining for years to come.

Farhad Moshiri opposes the Friedkins’ Goodison Park plans for Everton

Everton have big plans for Goodison Park’s Finale on the weekend as fans get set to bid farewell to their historic home.

But that may not strictly be true given the plans the Friedkins have potentially lined up for the stadium in L4.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, former owner Moshiri has now said he believes Goodison needs to be demolished by 2028.

“My advisors told me that by 2028 Goodison should be demolished for the new stadium,” he said.

“So that was the first time it became part of the agenda.”

“They are all in love with Goodison and by then I was in love with Goodison. Nobody wanted to move, but the reason they had to leave was partly infrastructural and partly financial.”

Moshiri spoke out for the first time since departing Merseyside in December as the Friedkins took on the club.

Everton fans have criticised Moshiri over the years for numerous things he did as the club’s owner.

However, there may well be a number of fans who actually find themselves agreeing with their former owner on this occasion.

Everton could financially benefit from keeping Goodison Park

Manchester City fans mocked Everton’s FFP breaches in their recent visit to Goodison Park.

It has been a difficult few years for the Toffees following the struggles they endured under Moshiri.

However, the Friedkins may potentially be viewing Goodison Park as a potential PSR loophole to benefit the first-team.

Speaking to Everton News, TBR Football’s finance expert Adam Williams shared his understanding on the gains there to be made by keeping the historic ground.

“The system is expected to cap men’s team spending on agents, transfers and wages at 85 per cent of revenue,” he said.

“Everton Women generated £3.1m in turnover last year. Let’s say they double that in a few years at Goodison to £6m. 85 per cent of that is £5.1m. That’s £5.1m extra that Everton men could theoretically spend on the squad without breaching PSR.”
