Everton’s recruitment during Farhad Moshiri’s reign has been very hit-and-miss.
The Toffees have had successes in the transfer window, including the likes of Amadou Onana and Richarlison in recent years.
Though, they’ve also misfired with a number of big-money acquisitions with Beto a current example in Sean Dyche’s squad.
Everton’s poor recruitment has seen them fail to land a number of targets, too, and it’s just emerged that one of Europe’s best strikers was wanted by Frank Lampard back in 2022.
The failure to get that deal over the line looks even worse after what happened last night.

Frank Lampard wanted Everton to sign Viktor Gyokeres in 2022
Following Viktor Gyokeres’ sensational hat-trick against Manchester City last night, it resurfaced that Frank Lampard wanted Everton to sign him in 2022 (as per Daily Mail) when he was valued at just £10m by Coventry City.
At the time, Gyokeres had just come off the back of scoring 17 goals in the Championship and clearly club chiefs weren’t convinced that he was the right option.
So, Everton instead opted to sign Salamon Rondon from the Chinese Super League, which just didn’t work out.
Gyokeres is now considered world-class and has interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has an £86m release clause.

Everton still need to sign a striker
Everton have never really adequately replaced Romelu Lukaku since his departure in 2017, so there’s still an obvious need to sign a prolific striker in the January transfer window.
Everton should consider signing AC Milan’s Tammy Abraham, who hasn’t been a regular starter at the Serie A giants since joining in the summer.
The Toffees looked at signing Abraham earlier this year, so clearly he’s a player who Dyche really admires.
A telling few weeks lie ahead on Merseyside.
