Dele Alli’s last appearance in an Everton shirt came in August 2022.

Dele Alli went on loan to Turkish Super Lig outfit Besiktas that season but his season was cut short after sustaining a hamstring injury which required surgery.

The 28-year-old has been working his way back ever since and he’s now technically a free agent after his contract at Everton expired in July.

However, Alli is continuing to train with Everton in the hope that he can earn a new contract – should he prove his fitness.

With that said, Alan Myers has now issued the latest update on his current situation.

Dele Alli is closer to playing with the under-21s

The whole footballing world is completely behind Dele Alli and many are desperate to see him return to the pitch.

Alli is aiming to be back in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup and believes he can get back to his best.

At the moment, the former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker is regaining his fitness and now Myers has revealed that he’s close to playing with the under-21s.

Myers also noted that he’s doing well on a personal level, which is great to hear considering everything he’s been through.

Alli has interest from Lille and Genoa

Everton News reported last month that Champions League outfit Lille are showing an interest in signing Alli.

Serie A side Genoa have also looked at Alli in recent weeks, so clearly, he won’t struggle to find a new club if Everton decide against renewing his deal.

A telling few weeks lie ahead for the former England international, who appears to be closing in on a return.
