‘Grim’… Everton fans fume after hearing who Kevin Thelwell is trying to sign for David Moyes

Everton remain active in the transfer window with the deadline now just five days away.

David Moyes is keen to sign some ‘seasoned’ players and has made it very clear that he needs help in the window, despite back-to-back wins.

An injury to Orel Mangala will likely force them into the market for a replacement and it’s understood Everton are eyeing Sunderland’s Dan Neil.

Though, the Black Cats are expected to play hardball as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Sunderland want £15m for Neil, which may be a little out of Everton’s budget, particularly with the more pressing need to sign a striker.

With that said, Toffees fans have now been reacting to the rumours linking them to Nottingham Forest frontman Taiwo Awoniyi.

Everton fans don’t want to sign Taiwo Awoniyi

Everton are eyeing Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of the transfer deadline and it’s fair to say, fans aren’t best pleased with the link.

They took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice their frustration at the rumour, with many urging Kevin Thelwell not to sign him.

“Grim. Rather give beto a run of games,” @graemeo_c posted.

@Coady__ simply said: “Was at Liverpool so NO.”

“Another overpriced cast-off,” @yonderbluehills commented.

@BT_1878 added: “I’d be so so disappointed if we ended up with Awoniyi or Brobbey.”

@bluesofgoodison explained: “Wouldn’t go anywhere near Awoniyi with that injury record and Brobbey is a hard no. Underwhelming list that.”

“I couldn’t handle Awoniyi and Doucoure trying to play one-twos… stay well clear,” @ShaunUnsworth said.

Awoniyi’s injured record is a real concern

Everton fans are quite rightly concerned about the links to Awoniyi, especially when you take a look at his injury record.

The Forest forward is coming off the back of a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury – which required surgery.

Since returning, Awoniyi has struggled to get back up to speed and has netted just one goal in 20 outings this term.

With that said, given the fee Forest would demand, it’s probably a deal to stay well clear of. Rangers striker Hamza Igamane would be a much better signing.

And, it’s been reported that Everton are close to signing Igamane, so that’s certainly one to keep an eye on this week.
