Everton’s need for a new striker was highlighted over the weekend.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin picked up an injury in the opening stages of the game which will cause concern across Merseyside.

David Moyes is worried about Calvert-Lewin’s injury with the striker going down without any contact from any Brighton & Hove Albion player.

For Everton, goals have been the biggest issue all season with Sean Dyche struggling to get a tune out of his forwards.

That alone would be enough reason to add further attackers over the winter window.

The Friedkins are keen to sign new forwards before the deadline and were well aware of the club’s struggles coming into January.

And there is now a new target who could make the move to Merseyside from Nottingham Forest.

Everton keen to sign Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi

Even the future of their only remaining striker remains uncertain with Torino keen to sign Beto before the end of the window.

With interest in the Portuguese striker still lurking, reports from Italy have shared some of Everton’s targets.

According to Tuttosport, Everton are targeting a potential late swoop for the Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi.

Moyes needs reinforcement up front with an injury to Beto a potential disaster with Everton just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

There is still a lot of football to be played and going into the remaining months with one fit striker is a recipe for trouble.

Awoniyi is just one of the players said to be on Kevin Thelwell’s radar, with Everton also keen on Brian Brobbey from Ajax.

Everton still require a quality addition, but they certainly need numbers through the door before the deadline due to their injury issues.

Taiwo Awoniyi needs a fresh start

Since signing for Forest from Union Berlin, it has been a real struggle for Awoniyi with Chris Wood setting the league alight.

Game time has naturally been hard to come by for the Nigerian with Wood in such red-hot form.

However, a fresh start could be exactly what he needs having previously shown some signs in a Forest shirt.

This is a player who Chris Wood has hailed as ‘fantastic’ in an interview with BBC Sport.

He is certainly not a striker who would arrive in form, but he may benefit from a dose of regular football.
