Sean Dyche’s Everton have suffered a defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool headed into the Premier League match against Everton on Saturday as favourites.

Most pundits backed Liverpool to win the match.

And, the Reds did win.

It finished 2-0 to Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot to give Liverpool the lead in the 75th minute.

Salah made it 2-0 in the seventh minute of injury time.

Liverpool vs Everton controversy

But, don’t let the final result fool you into thinking that it was an easy win for Liverpool.

It was a hugely controversial match, and I think that Liverpool got lucky with the decisions.

Ashley Young was sent off in the first half.

I was disappointed by the manner in which he got the second yellow card.

But, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate’s challenge on Beto went unpunished in the 65th minute.

Konate was already on a yellow card.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean has said that the Liverpool defender was lucky not to be sent off.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp soon took off Konate.

Stephen Warnock on Liverpool penalty vs Everton

And, former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock believes that the penalty decision that went the way of the Reds was not the right call either.

Michael Keane was adjudged to have handled the ball.

The penalty was given after referee Craig Pawson came to the pitchside monitor.

Salah converted it.

Warnock said on BBC Sport: “Keane’s arm is way out from his body.

“One thing I will say is that he doesn’t move it towards the ball, it doesn’t move.

“Before Diaz has even crossed it, his arm is out. Does he then have to pull it back out of the way? I find these ones harsh.”

Everton are now 16th in the Premier League table with seven points from nine matches.

Sean Dyche’s side remain close to the relegation zone.
