Here is exactly why Everton will not be hiring Brendan Rodgers as David Moyes’ successor

Everton have been linked with a potential swoop for Brendan Rodgers to succeed David Moyes, but here is exactly why that will not be happening.

It has been a turbulent few weeks in Everton’s Premier League campaign, with goals coming at a real premium for the Toffees.

Moyes has only seen one point taken from the last possible nine since the last victory coming against Crystal Palace.

Everton’s summer transfer business really pleased Moyes, but it is clear that not every need was ticked off.

Given the significant player turnover, the Friedkins were not going to be able to scratch every itch.

However, the lack of goals is now beginning to cost the Blues considerable points as Everton fall behind in their pursuit of European qualification.

With some questions arising over Moyes, it is becoming very clear that Rodgers will not be the man who could potentially succeed him.

Everton fans do not want Brendan Rodgers to replace David Moyes

A number of Everton fans would like to see Edin Terzic hired as a potential successor if they are to move on from Moyes.

There has been no indication that the Friedkins are looking to move on from the 62-year-old just yet by reliable sources close to Everton.

However, transfer guru Indy Kaila suggested on Tuesday evening that Everton are eyeing Rodgers as a possible hire for the near future.

This was immediately hit with a strong, negative response by a lot of Everton fans.

One fan was keen to point out the previous mistake of hiring Rafael Benitez, saying: ‘We tried a former Liverpool manager, didn’t go well’. Whilst another simply said: ‘Nearly had me there… Rodgers.’

The post claimed the Friedkins are looking to Rodgers to bring an entertaining style of football to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

This saw one Everton hit back by replying: ‘If they want exciting football they wouldn’t bring him in’. And another fan warned the Friedkins: ‘Unless @friedkingroup want a fan revolt in their 1st full season as owners they will stay well clear of Brendan.’

Clearly, fans are not keen on the idea of hiring another former Liverpool boss, one added: ‘Not happening not another ex-Kopite. With another fan also saying: ‘Manager went well last time didn’t it. Just fold the club if so.’

What Brendan Rodgers has previously said about Everton

The 52-year-old manager has already had a number of jobs across various Premier League clubs where he has even commented on Everton’s recent struggles.

Speaking about the money Everton had spent under Farhad Moshiri, Rodgers slammed Everton’s recruitment in 2022:

“It’s well-documented there’s a lot of money been spent – a lot of money – but if it doesn’t all join up, then it doesn’t really matter,” he said in his pre-Everton press conference three years ago.

“They’ve got good players who go out and work hard and make it difficult and they’ve got players with quality, so it’s probably frustrating for the supporters, I’m sure, because it’s a huge club and the investment’s been huge and they probably wanted better.”

The fans clearly do not think Rodgers is the man to bring entertaining football to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but his Liverpool past is another issue.

Everton fans still hold frustration towards Benitez years on from his time on Merseyside and it is clear the Friedkins cannot make the same mistake as Moshiri did.
