Like every other year, Everton spent a large chunk of the summer transfer window being linked with players they never signed.
The Toffees went onto make eight signings that included Beto, Ashley Young and Jack Harrison.
The club’s financial problems were very well documented and they were largely restricted to loan deals and free transfers, however they did eventually splash around £24 million on the two Portuguese forwards.
But it was the price tag of a number of players that meant that Everton couldn’t continue their pursuit and the Merseyside outfit were forced to give up on signing some of their main targets.
Here are six of Everton’s summer targets and how they are getting on now…
Viktor Gyokeres
Everton were one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres, who was entering the final 12 months of his contract at Coventry City.

However, the striker made the surprise decision to join Sporting Lisbon in a £18.5 million deal and hasn’t looked back since.
Gyokeres has already netted 12 goals and provided four assists in only 14 games for Sporting, with the club sat second on goal difference in Primeira Liga.
The Swede was shown the first red card of his career in a Europa League clash with Rakow Czestochowa last month, before going onto score a hat-trick in the Taca da Liga a week later.
Wilfried Gnonto
Wilfried Gnonto was probably the most reported transfer saga at Everton over the summer, with the winger looking set to leave Leeds United when he handed in a transfer request.
However, the Italian never got his move away from Elland Road and remained in the Championship.
Gnonto has started only six games in the second tier this season and hasn’t scored a goal since his first of the season in a dramatic 4-3 win over Ipswich Town in August, while he also picked up an assist against Norwich last month.
Moussa Dembele
Everton were linked with Moussa Dembele in the summer following his departure from Lyon, however a move never materialised and he eventually joined Jordan Henderson, Demarai Gray and Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq.

The Frenchman has scored seven goals in eight games in the Saudi Pro League, with the side sat seventh in the table.
El Bilal Toure
Everton reportedly made a £34 million bid for El Bilal Toure in the summer, however their pursuit failed when he went onto sign for Atalanta.
Toure is yet to make his debut for Atalanta though, with the attacker suffering a serious thigh injury during a friendly against Juventus in August.
Toure was expected to be sidelined for around three months, which means he could return to action very soon.
Crysencio Summerville
Crysencio Summerville was the third Everton target from Leeds United, with the club eventually landing Jack Harrison.

The Dutchman has really impressed in the Championship this season, scoring six goals and providing five assists so far.
Summerville only signed a new deal with the Whites last year, though they could be forced to part ways with him if they fail to secure promotion.
Che Adams
Che Adams failed with a £15 million bid for Che Adams in the summer and went onto sign Beto instead.
The Scot scored in each of Southampton’s first three league games of the season as Everton looked to capture him. However, he hasn’t scored since.
Adams is without a goal since August and has only started two of the Saints’ last eight games.
