Everton endured more refereeing controversy on Monday evening during their 1-1 draw against West Ham.

Six games into the Premier League, there are already a number of running themes beginning to appear for David Moyes’ side.

Without doubt, the biggest issue for Everton is their strikers finding the back of the net.

After the game on Monday evening, Duncan Ferguson slammed Everton’s strikers for not showing enough in front of goal.

However, another issue has been some of the refereeing decisions to go against the Toffees in these opening weeks.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall picked up a harsh yellow card in the recent Merseyside Derby, which put him one game away from a suspension.

The Everton midfielder was handed another yellow card that has sparked more frustrations coming out of Finch Farm .

Henry Winter urges PGMOL to explain to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Everton

Following his yellow card picked up against the Hammers, Dewsbury-Hall will now be suspended for the upcoming game against Crystal Palace.

Moyes was left furious with Dewsbury-Hall’s yellow card which was handed out by referee Sam Barrott.

Taking to social media, highly-respected journalist Henry Winter has called out for the PGMOL to issue an explanation to both Everton and the midfielder.

‘Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is not a dirty player. He’s played 5,219 Premier League minutes and gets a booking every 401 minutes. One booking every seven hours (roughly) hardly constitutes a one-man footballing crime-wave,’ said Winter.

‘His reaction, and that of Jack Grealish close by, spoke of experienced professionals who knew it was a ridiculous decision to punish a fair challenge with a free-kick and booking and who instantly expressed their frustration.’

‘Yellow cards can’t be rescinded but, at the very least, Dewsbury-Hall is owed an explanation from PGMO for the type of decision he described as “mind-boggling”. Respect for officials would actually be enhanced by some acknowledgement of their mistakes. A phone-call from refs’ chief Howard Webb to Dewsbury-Hall or his manager, David Moyes, would be diplomatic.’

Dewsbury-Hall was not impressed with his card against Liverpool, and he was left even more furious on Monday evening.

As Winter said, yellow cards cannot be rescinded, but that does not mean that Everton should settle for the decision lying down.

What has been said about Dewsbury-Hall’s suspension

Moyes is going to have a big decision on his hands on Sunday as to who he will replace Dewsbury-Hall with against Palace.

Speaking to TBR Football, former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg stood by the Everton player following the baffling decision.

“Dewsbury-Hall can be disappointed that he will get a one-match suspension for his fifth yellow card,” he said.

“This disappointment was even made worse when, in the last week, he was given a yellow card late in the match against Liverpool for taking a quick free kick, which I believe the referee could have managed in a better way. You cannot appeal yellow cards, so you will miss this weekend’s match.”

There was a lot of reaction to the decision, with the player himself calling it ‘mind-boggling’ on social media after the game.

Hopefully, Everton’s rough decisions will come to an end, as the referees have certainly got a number of decisions wrong this season.
