After the game, Pep Guardiola hailed Everton’s threat from set-pieces, so clearly it wasn’t an easy game for the reigning Premier League champions.

Ilkay Gundogan admits it’s so tough to play at Goodison Park

Man City didn’t have it easy yesterday and had to rely on two late goals to snatch three points on Merseyside.

Veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was very complimentary of Everton after the game, noting that it’s always a difficult game at Goodison Park.

“We had to work hard,” Gundogan admitted.

“This ground is always tough to come and play at with the way they approach the game. We had to be careful, maybe at the beginning we didn’t want to risk it too much.

“We came out in the second half to perform and we have done that in a brilliant way.”

Moyes will be pleased to hear Gundogan’s comments

Evidently, whilst Moyes will be disappointed with the result, he’ll be glad to hear that City players struggled against his side and how they set up.

The Toffees are certainly punching well above their weight at the moment, having been ultra-competitive against three Champions League-chasing sides.

Everton have shown that they can go toe-to-toe with some of the best teams in the country under Moyes, so there is plenty of reason to be optimistic ahead of next season.

James Garner believes Everton can finish in the top 10 next term, and with the backing of the Friedkin Group, there’s no reason why they can’t even push for a European spot.

The future is bright on Merseyside.
