Everton find themselves requiring a big response this weekend after a seriously underwhelming defeat against Southampton on Saturday.
Sean Dyche’s side suffered a considerable setback on the south coast with Everton’s unbeaten run of five games coming to an end.
Dyche did also blame VAR for Everton’s defeat to Southampton with Jan Bednarek said to be fortunate to have avoided a red card.
Frustrations is beginning to build once again at Goodison Park with Dyche warned of his decision to not start Jarrad Branthwaite against the Saints.
And it is one of the other defenders who did actually start against Southampton who has received some hefty criticism from Jamie Carragher following the defeat.

Jamie Carragher criticises Everton’s Ashley Young in Saints defeat
Speaking on Monday Night Football, former Liverpool defender Carragher admitted he was disappointed by Ashley Young’s display against the Saints.
“When we talk about communication in football, we always talk about what you’re saying.
“This is all about eye contact. Look, he doesn’t look at the ball, there’s nobody in the box, there’s nobody making a move. He touches it, but he’s not looking down. He’s now made eye contact with Armstrong here.
“Keep an eye on Ashley Young. You see Ashley Young, he’s actually looking over his left shoulder, the wrong way, his body position is wrong because these communicate not through words, through eye contact.
“He knows he’s now going to play that ball in there, Ashley Young, he’s been done. It’s great play from Southampton.”
Despite this criticism from Carragher, Dyche hailed Young’s performance against Southampton and actually described the £40k-per-week defender as ‘excellent’.
Nathan Patterson injury update
Everton has suffered some considerable injury issues at right-back this season with injuries to the likes of Seamus Coleman and a suspension for Young.
However, they also have a long-term absentee in Nathan Patterson who has suffered from a thigh injury.
The 23-year-old has made it in the matchday squad over the last three Premier League games but has not played any minutes.

Just two weeks ago, Dyche admitted Patterson is looking fitter as the weeks go by as he seemingly nears in on a return to the starting XI.
“He’s looking fitter and sharper every time. Not quite there yet but he’s training all the time and so far he’s coming through it clean which is really important.”
Dyche recently spoke about Patterson changing position, but it now seems as if Everton could really do with a long-term successor in the right-back position.
