Everton are now just one week away from their 2024/25 season opener against Brighton & Hove Albion.

After a season to largely forget, Sean Dyche will be looking forward to the opportunity to start afresh this season at Goodison Park.

The Toffees have been one of the most active sides in the transfer market across the entire Premier League having landed four new faces.

And more could be headed to Goodison Park with Everton showing interest in signing a new striker over the coming weeks.

But there has been on issue all summer long for Everton and that is the ongoing takeover saga which lurks in the background.

A real mess has been made of the whole situation by Farhad Moshiri but there has now been an update.

What’s the latest in Kevin Malone’s interest in Everton takeover?

To say it has been a mess is probably an understatement with Moshiri having wasted over a year of potential progress by providing 777 Group exclusivity.

And that was a move which certainly did not pay off after their proposal fell flat after they failed to miss their deadline earlier this year.

Next up was Everton’s talks with The Friedkin Group which also collapsed just a matter of weeks ago, on the same day as the Blues played Sligo Rovers over in Ireland.

Now, the Toffees find themselves headed into the new season perhaps with even less clarity on who could become their next owner.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Everton are still awaiting a decision from Kevin Malone’s group as to whether a bid will be lodged.

There is one significant issue which Malone’s group is facing and that is the debt which would be taken on through purchasing the club.

But for now, careful consideration is going to be needed ahead of any potential new bid which will be launched to buy Everton.

It is certainly not proving to be an easy process…

Kevin Malone views Everton’s debt as a stumbling block in takeover bid

The former LA Dodgers general manager has strong history working within an established sporting side who he will be aware of the finances behind running a club.

However, if he does have concerns about Everton’s debt then it could suggest that this may not be the move for him.

Blues fans will now just want a resolution with Everton recently told they could soon hit crisis point financially if no takeover is pushed through.

For now, there can be a lot of excitement for things to come on the pitch with Dyche’s side putting on a display in their last two friendlies.

But Everton’s long-term future remains massively uncertain as Moshiri struggles to move the club on to new hands.
