Leicester City have confirmed the signing of a former Everton player who left Finch Farm earlier this month.

Everton have seen a number of players depart this summer, with Ashley Young recently joining Ipswich Town upon the expiry of his contract.

Joao Virginia has made a move to Sporting, and Mason Holgate has made a surprise move to Qatari side Al-Gharafa.

Interestingly, the more high-profile exits like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure are yet to secure their next destination.

With all that said, another player who’s just left this month has now been announced as Leicester City’s new signing.

Leicester City sign former Everton player Asmir Begovic

Asmir Begovic left Everton as a free agent earlier this month, having had two separate spells on Merseyside.

Begovic joined from Bournemouth in 2021 and then had a season at Queens Park Rangers in between before re-signing last summer.

But, ultimately, both parties decided to go their separate ways and now Championship promotion hopefuls Leicester City have landed his signature on a free transfer.

“We’re pleased to confirm the signing of experienced goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, who joins Leicester City on a one-year contract, subject to league clearance,” Leicester’s statement read.

Begovic expected to be number two goalkeeper

Begovic is expected to become Leicester City’s number two goalkeeper, with Mads Hermansen likely to join West Ham United.

Jakub Stolarczyk will become the number one after impressing in the Premier League last season, whilst Hermansen was injured.

Begovic, in his first interview, explained that he’ll be there to provide advice to help the young goalkeepers he’ll be working with.

“I’m really looking forward to working with them and providing experience and leadership there, and any wisdom I may have, if they want to pick my brains for anything, and making sure we push each other, set standards every single day,” the former Everton player said.

“We want to get better every day and I think those guys are super, super talented. They’re really young, of course, in their careers but they’ve got a big, big future in the game. If I can help them in any way, I’m looking forward to doing so.”
