Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim after 14 months in charge, and now the process has begun over finding his replacement.
From an Everton perspective, Amorim’s dismissal could actually impact David Moyes’ transfer plans this month.
That’s because the Toffees are now unlikely to progress in a deal to sign Kobbie Mainoo, who was potentially available for a loan move.
Mainoo played a bit-part role under Amorim, but under the new manager, he’s expected to play a much more prominent role.
That said, the new Manchester United manager could actually be a former Everton boss, according to a recent report.

Man United discussing the appointment of former Everton manager Marco Silva
According to the Telegraph, Man United chiefs have been discussing the potential appointment of former Everton manager Marco Silva.
The report states that United have actually contacted Silva in the past, and he is now back among the list of candidates.
The Portuguese head coach currently has Fulham sitting in 11th place, and last season, he broke the club’s Premier League points total record (54).
Silva is out of contract at the end of the season, so United may decide to wait until he’s a free agent in July.
Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola, Roberto De Zerbi and Francesco Farioli are also being discussed by United chiefs internally.
Fulham braced for Marco Silva approach
The Mirror are also reporting that Fulham are now braced for Man United to approach them over their manager.
The Fulham board offered Silva a three-and-a-half-year contract back in November, but the former Toffees boss is yet to respond.
Clearly, United have been keeping tabs on his situation at Craven Cottage, and their interest has been long-standing.
Silva was on their radar before Amorim was appointed in November 2024, so it wouldn’t at all be surprising if he finally ends up at Old Trafford.
Few would’ve predicted that when he was sacked by Farhad Moshiri in December 2019.
