Everton’s squad is undergoing a major overhaul this summer transfer window.

Several players have already left upon the expiry of their contracts, with David Moyes admitting it’s not an ideal situation to be in.

“It’s a situation you don’t see very often,” the Everton boss said. “I’m not saying there’s not 10 or 11 players out of contract at other clubs, but we’ve got five on loan, so we’ve got to give those players back unless we’re going to buy them.

“So it’s an unprecedented situation I see when I’ve come in. Do I really want a huge overhaul? Probably not.”

Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and many more have departed on free transfers, and now one of them is being targeted by Manchester United.

Manchester United making ‘shock move’ to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin after leaving Everton

Dominic Calvert-Lewin announced his Everton exit last month, ending a turbulent nine-year career on Merseyside.

There has been plenty of interest in Calvert-Lewin, with West Ham United one of many clubs circling his signature.

Now, according to Alan Nixon, Manchester United are making a ‘shock move’ to sign the former Toffees number nine.

It’s claimed United chiefs have already reached out to his representatives, with a lucrative contract offer being considered.

Ruben Amorim wants to bolster his forward ranks, and Calvert-Lewin would likely join as the third or fourth choice.

Calvert-Lewin may want regular playing time

Indeed, if Man United were to land Calvert-Lewin’s signature, he’s unlikely to start much more than a handful of Premier League games.

Whilst they’ve struggled, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are still expected to be the first and second choice unless a big-money forward arrives.

So, with that said, the former Everton frontman may turn down any forthcoming approach from the Red Devils in favour of a move to the Hammers, for instance, where he’d be the starting number nine.

It’ll be interesting to see where he ends up.
